I had a very small chip in my windshield about a half inch or so from the edge on the drivers side. It happened a couple of days ago so I thought it would be best to have it repaired while the cracks were almost impossible to see. I was at work when it was done and my girlfriend was home. She said it looked fine after the glass guy left so at lunch time I went out to have a look. Boy, was I surprised!! The cracks had grown by alot, still less than a half inch but depressing just the same. I read the contract and it does say the repair might cause the damaged area to become worse. I will never ever have my windshield repaired this way again. It was a free fix through Geico but so what. I guess these cars are more prone to rock chips because of their height. Just had to vent!! I've got one that I'm living with and hoping it doesn't get bigger. Right after it happened, I went to a glass repair shop and they suggested that I leave it alone because it would more than likely crack more if he tried to repair it. He went as far as to say that if I really wanted to do it he would rather I take it somewhere else.
So far, so good... knock on wood... fingers crossed...
My car had a "star crack" in it when i got it so i assume it was repaired that way since through all the snow and ice we had it didn't get worse. It's really annoying so I understand what you are saying.
I don't know what method they used. My girlfriend was home when they came and I was at work. I had a chip in my ford ranger repaired and it lasted for 2 years and then started to grow. I will just wait for this one to grow and then have a new one put in. They even put a couple of very small scratches in my fender!!!

Sometimes the injection method works great, sometimes it still ends up cracking. I wouldn't give up on that process though - after all it didn't cost you anything and if it had worked this time you'd be set.

Had a small "star" repaired after returning from a cross country cruise, it may have been a week old when repaired. The repair has worked well, no spreading and you wouldn't find it if you didn't know exactly where to look.
Wonder if the age and location of the "star" affect the fix?
Well mine also had a very small "star" chip right in the middle of the windshield when I bought it,,and the dealer said they had the fix done. That's been almost two and a half years/twenty thousand miles ago,,year round with winter driving!! Still small !!
From my personal but non-professional experience I'm fairly sure that the various repair processes are incapable of doing as much "stabilizing" as we are led to believe. It is more of a cosmetic improvement than anything else. I would wage that the damage to your windshield was such that it would have cracked, and probably sooner rather than later, even if you had not had the "repair" procedure done. I know this doesn't make you feel much better. It's just one of those "s**t happens" type deals that we all have to live with.
