I have a problem with the remote.
When I got the car out of storage the remotes didnt work. I replaced the batteries and they still didnt work.
Then I was told to reprogram them by holding the 2 buttons down until the horn chirps.
I did that and they worked fine except.
The doors will ope and lock by themselves. If I have the remote in my pocket and I am walking around the car or whatever the horn will chirp on its own. It will open and lock the doors by itself. Like it does it randomly every minute or two.
Anyone have this happen and anyone know how to fix it?

Those sort of problems with the passive feature are fairly common. That's why most people turn it off. There is a slide switch on your FOB, slide it to the off position. If that doesn't work spray some contact cleaner on the switch and work it back and forth numerous times to clean the contacts. If that doesn't work, take the FOB apart and clean the circuit board and switch. If that doesn't work your FOB has died and you need a new one or to have yours repaired.

You can also try the full reprogramming procedure:

Programming Transmitters
1. Turn the ignition to ON.
2. Turn the radio to OFF.
3. Press the RESET button in order to clear any IPC warning messages.
4. Press and release the OPTIONS button on the DIC to scroll through the display options until the IPC display is blank.
5. Press and hold the RESET button for 3 seconds.
6. Press the OPTIONS button until FOB TRAINING message is displayed.
7. Press the RESET button in order to begin the programming sequence. The message HOLD LK + UNLK 1ST FOB will be displayed.
8. Simultaneously press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the first transmitter for 15 seconds. The IPC will indicate when that transmitter is programmed and when to proceed to the next. Repeat this procedure for each additional transmitter or press the OPTIONS button to exit.

 

I'm guessing you have the earlier C-5 with the passive sensor in the fobs. Pocket dust seems to short out the switch and cause that function to turn on. Slide the fob's switch on and off a couple of times and it'll probably start working normally again.

 

I believe you can also tuen the passive feature off in the DIC, but that may only be on certain cars. Of course, since the passive style remotes have such a high failure rate and are so expensive, you can do what I did - buy a pair of year 2000 remotes from Gene Culley. They work fine on the 97-99 cars, but they don't have the passive device in them. You can see that GM realized how bad the system was since the eliminated it starting in 2000. Also, DO NOT buy a 2001-2004 remote - they will not work on your car.
