Default Visor Falls Down with top off

My Passenger Visor keeps falling down when I take the top off (and probably soon the drivers visor will do it too).

It has been just fine for the last few months that I have owned it and the visors are in perfect shape other than that (only 26,000 miles on a 99 coupe). It just started happening this past week.

I like to keep the visors down and pointed forward when the top is off. I don't like them sticking up in the air.

Does anyone have a good fix for this problem of them falling down ?

I replaced mine. Got the new visors off Ecklers. Does yours have the lighted vanity?

Yea, I have a 99 C5 and it too is starting to get weak and drop (fall down). It is a sealed unit and you would have to cut it open to see what makes it spring load to the arm, of which I think would distroy the visor, unless you can sew it back together. I would like to purchase new ones but in leather. Ebay sells stock ones for $77 each, but like you if one is going the other will soon, so purchase two. New ones are about $99 bucks. When I buy new ones, I'll gut the old ones and see if it can be fixed and then find someone to sew a new leather cover and replace the new ones, but I think leather would look and feel nicer... Good luck.

You sure it's not the clips? I replaced one of mine and keep an extra set around. That plastic wears and looses the spring tension to hold the sun shade in position. Cost just a few bucks to replace them. (I paid under $2. each)

Like brand new afterwards matter of fact the new clips are really tight when inserting the sun shade into them.

I don't know how the clip can stop the visor from pivoting downwards. It is mainly used to keep the visor "arm" in position not the visor itself from falling unless I am not understanding something here.

Well if one side is working ok, then swap them out and just see. If it fixes the problem then you've isolated it, and the cost was reasonable.

No not the clips, my clips are still tight, the visor won't flip up and touch the glass targa top on the passenger side. the unit within the visor flap is worn or breaking, so the flaps just hangs about 3/4 down. The driver side is fine for now but I can feel the guts getting weak and will start to do the same as the passengers side. I need them to stay as high as possible, with the top off it keeps the wind from coming into the cockpit and messing my girls hairdo... kinda like a wind break..

In your case, it sounds like you need to order a new set of sun shades. It's a good thing they are easy to replace compared to C4 styles. Probably Gene Culley will have a reasonable price on them.

I've had that problem with driver's side on '04 convert. A few years ago under warranty I had it replaced twice! Now I'm 3 for 3. None of the three visors stayed up well (pushed forward towards windshield) on the driver's side. The service writer offered to change it out again but I passed. I decided I'd live with it.

It also seems to happen more frequently during hotter weather than during our cool winter months.

I looked at my visor closely today and you were right. The clip actually holds the arm from pivoting in its position thus causing the visor to fall.

Since this was obviously a worn/stretched clip and I didn't have a clip to replace it with but wanted to drive today with the top off and not get anoyed with the falling visor, I just took a piece of black electrical tape and wound it twice around the arm and sure enough, it held tightly.

I gues you can also use some black shrink tube also if you dont' like electrical tape but you really can't see the black tape on the black visor arm.

This held today so I am hopeful it will last a while till I replace the clip (if it is even necessary to replace it now ).

Cool!

Yeah the first time it happened, I put a small piece of the smooth side of a piece of velcro in there. It helped for a few weeks until I could get a new set in. Finally the day before the new set arrived one the legs broke and it was toast then.

I was very much amazed at how tight new clips are.

I keep an extra set in the tool box now.

Did you buy your new clips at the dealer or on the auction site or somewhere else ?

Got a link that you can PM me with for the place you bought them and price please ?

From a Chevy dealer.

Gene Culley should be able to get you a decent price.

Take em off!! I took mine off last year, and you'd be shocked at how much more of an open air feeling you get with those big things out of the way.
