ac actuators: manual vs automatic climate

ac actuators: manual vs automatic climate
ok, so ive been plagued with the dreaded ac actuator problem.
the actuators are 140 per side for the auto climate control.
the actuators are 35 per side for the maual climate control.
while i have my dash off, i was contemplating replacing both so i dont have to worry about this problem again.
the whole problem with the actuators is that the big gear cracks, throws off the servo, and throws the code. one side of my actuators is cracked completely and the other side has 2 hairline fractures.
without spending $240 on something so stupid on a damn .30c piece of plastic molded into a gear, has anyone bought the manual version and taken the gear out and swapped it over to the electronic version?
and, i dont know if anyone noticed, but the c4 version is EXACTLY like the c5 version. they had dual zone electric climate as well...

just went thru this on my 99, the newer gears are diffrent and will not interchange (for mine anyway)
