My battery is located in the trunk since I have a separate fuel cell for my nitrous under the hood. Last week my battery died so I took the old one out and closed the hatch not even thinking what I was doing. Normally this would not be a big deal but I just had a rollbar installed and I can no longer crawl into the back of the car. Luckily through mass amounts of patience I was able to just touch the wires to the terminals to get power to the trunk release after I had to twist my body into a pretzel. Now that the new battery is in it got me thinking if this battery ever dies I am screwed there will be no way for me to reach the battery. Does anyone know if there is some sort of mechanical release that I could get that would not have to be powered electrically to get the trunk open in case this happens again.
How about getting one of those battery chargers (or jumpstart kits) that uses a cigerette lighter plug? I would think one of those would give enough current to pop the hatch.
I have a monte carlo that had the trunk lock taken out and filled. They put a hood latch release next to the back seat. Works great! Not sure how it would work in a vette tho....
Yeah no way to reach the manual release.
The cigarette jump starter is a good one I had not thought of that.
Maybe I can just put an extension I guess on the manual release.
