Well I had a bad cell in my AC Delco battery so I needed a new one. I installed it, started the car, and everthing retained my settings, except three of the TPS units. The left rear shows 32 psi, but the remaining three are blank. Will they reset after a little time or do they need to be reprogramed, and if so how is it done?
Interesting results. I've had my battery disconnected a number of times and at least once for an extended period and never had TPS problems.
What year is the car? Perhaps their time has come. They usually last 8 to 10 years.
Here's the relearn procedure that I copped from another post. Give it a try and see if it helps:
1. Turn the ignition to ON.
2. Press the RESET button in order to clear any IPC display warning messages.
3. Press and release the OPTIONS button on the DIC to scroll through the display options until the IPC display is blank.
4. Press and hold the DIC RESET button for 3 seconds.
5. Press the OPTIONS button again until the TIRE TRAINING message appears.
6. Press the RESET button until the IPC LEARN L FRONT TIRE message appears in order to begin the programming sequence.
7. Install the J 41760 (Magnet) over the left front valve stem.
8. The horn will sound, indicating the left front TPM sensor is programmed.
Important
If the horn does not sound after 15 seconds, remove then reinstall the TPM sensor programming tool. This procedure may have to be attempted up to three times in some instances.
9. When the horn sounds, proceed to program the next TPM sensor in the following order as directed by the IPC messages:
. LEARN R FRONT TIRE
. LEARN R REAR TIRE
. LEARN L REAR TIRE
Thanks, it is an 2001. They have been working fine up until I changed the battery. I realize that they do not last for ever, but it is strange that three are not registering and one is.
I have had my battery out of the car for more than 2 weeks and it did not affect the TPS sensors at all. My guess would be the TPS batteries will need replacement
Have you tried driving around a bit to see if they register? I'd try that first before doing anything else. Good luck.
Chance of three sensors biting the dust at the same time is remote. Drive it to see if the wake up - tire sensors go into "sleep" mode when idle for a period of time. Try disconnecting the battery or doing the retraining procedure if driving doesn't work.
