Just got Z06 sway bars for my 02 coupe. Got the stock ones on now. Looks like a pretty simple job so I plan on putting the car on the Kwik-Lift and tackling it myself. Anything I should know, since I know a lot of you have already done it.
the rear seams to be a very simple process as i removed mine to install the slp cat back, now for the fronts, i have no idea how that's going to turn out but im interested in doing this same swap myself so i'll subscribe so i can get some pointers if there are any needed.
The only thing I would suggest is to mark the areas where the clamps are on both the front and rear sways (stock ones) before you remove them so you can line the new ones up the same way.
Probably easier to NOT do it on a Kwik lift- you want tension OFF the suspension.
Overall, very simple both front and rear. Get it on stands, remove endlink bolts (one each side) and 4 bolts on the sway brackets (2 each, 2 sides).
Did you get new endlinks (metal) and sway bushings? Use the super sticky lube that comes with the bushings (if you got new ones)- no squeeks.
Got everthing from Fitchner, forum vendor. My 02 already has the metal endlinks, not the plastic ones. Also, new bushing already pre-lubed according to them. Was also told I could do it without letting the suspension hang, which I guess is what I'm unsure of.
Maybe I'm missing something but since I already have the metal endlinks why can't I just remove the upper nuts holding the bar to the link as opposed to removing the whole link as per the directions? That way the configuration would remain the same.

you are correct. instead of following the directions exactally, remove the end link on the opposite side they suggest so the end link stays attached to the car. then just attach the new sways to the end links and save yourself a step. hope that makes sense. if it doesnt now, it will once you're under the car. if not let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks. Makes perfect sense. One more question, can I do this without letting the suspension hang like some have told me?

I really have no answer to this. hmmmm I know I jacked it up to do this the first time but I can't remember if I was able to do this with the vehicle on the ground. I don't want to give you the wrong advice so I am going to plead the 5th
good luck with the swap!

No problem. You've been a lot of help already. I can get it off the ground by driving it on my Kwik-Lift so I'll find out soon enough.
The sways aren't under load, but you may fight the endlink out. That's how it was on my car, put it on a stand and then lifted the side with a jack to get the endlink to easily remove. I thought I read only 04's had the metal endlinks stock?
Metal endlinks go back as far as '99, I believe. My buddie's '99 coupe had the steel end links on his sways and I know they were original on his car. GM switched over to AL links in 2001 - both my '02's have them.

GM started installing metal end links on C5 sway bars in 2004, prior to 2004, they were the plastic style.

Sorry, but not only do I have two 2002 C5's, one of which I ordered from Chevy on 9/9/01 and took delivery on 10/29/01, but my second one was bought bone stock from the original owner with 6700 miles on it. Both have aluminum end links. I swapped both their sway bars to aftermarket sets and kept the original end links in place. I have also worked on many stock C5's that predate the 2004 MY and all but one had metal end links.
Here's an original end link on the '02 I ordered new.
A rear end link on my second '02 - it's original equipment.
