What do you think of a 1999 C-5 as a commutor car? I will put about 200 miles a day on it mostly interstate driving. The car has abouit 44,000 miles on it.

Reason: wnog number
thats exactly why I bought my 97 - what a great car to drive and very affordable these days. I don't commute near that far but have driven it long distances and it is very comfortable. Of course you may catch the Mod bug and go crazy like most of us.
Now that the warmer weather is here, I drive my 03 3-4 days a week about 75 miles a day round trip. Makes my commute fun and gets better gas mileage than my Jeep.
Close friend has the same exact car as I do and has driven it back and forth to FL several times. He has no complaints about the ride and in fact says it is better than some "luxury" cars he has done it in.
I have a 2000 that I use for my daily driver in the summer. It's a little bit of a pain parking in tight parking spots because of the long doors, and getting in and out of it can be a little annoying since it's so low. I consider those to be very minor issues, though.
I drove from Pennsylvania all the way to Mississippi back in November. I did all 16 hours in the same day, and had no regrets whatsoever. The seats are incredibly comfortable, and that V8 is amazingly efficient on gas (got about 25 miles/gallon for the trip).
I bought mine for this reason. If I have to drive 2 hours a day to and from work, I am going to make the best of it. My car is up to 165000, and I see no reason it will not make 500 thou. I take care of it, and it takes care of me.
These cars make commuting look good.
I drove this car from Houston to salem, best drive I ever had.

I think it would be a great DD - comfortable, fuel efficient and a blast to drive. Just keep up the maintenance and you should get lots of service from the car.
I bought my 1999 coupe two and a half years ago with 48k miles. It's got about 80k miles now. Not 200 miles a day but it's my daily driver and I love it. I drive pretty much about 30 miles for my work commute in a day but it's about an hour and a half of travel time total of winding stop and go traffic.
Depends on where you live. I use mine as a DD and love it. Snow does become a hassle. Fortunately we don't get very much here (except this last winter).
I daily drive my '99 for my 100 mile per day commute. It's up to 192,000 miles now and still running strong, showing 471 rwhp on a Dynacom chassis dyno. Probably the two best things I did for driver comfort are the Corbeau A4 seats and the Z06 mufflers (got rid of those Borla Stingers). Good luck with your decision.
IMO the C5 is a great long distance car. Ive started out with no particular destination many times and wind up seven or eight hours, no complaints
One thing I would think about is if that commute is going to involve any snow or frequent rain for that matter. Its not that it cant be done (many do) but that its not as enjoyable in the c5 under those conditions.
And just speaking for myself (and I know everyone doesnt have the same sickness I do) I would need a decent parking place at the destination. Curbside (parallel) parking is dicey as most of the SUV's you meet on the road tend to park by sonar (they back up till they hear a noise) and the C5 is pretty low.
Other than those two concerns, as far as the driving goes, I cant think of another car Id like to spend the time in
