Default Ordered a C6 shift kit for 02 Z06

I have ordered the complete kit minus the boot. So once installed I should be rattle free.

Where is everyone getting there shift boots from or is everyone cutting the C5 boot? Thanks for any info.

You don't have to change your shift boot at all if you don't want. It can be used with zero modifications and look perfect. Here's what you do.

-Install shifter in car without **** attached. Get all adjustments done, if needed.

-Slip boot over new shifter and push the boot down so the top of the shifter is completely visible but don't snap the plastic boot ring into place just yet.

-Look at the bottom of the **** before you attach it. You'll see a round groove. More on that below.

-Attach the **** to the shifter.

-Pull up on the plastic boot ring like you're trying to pull it up over the shift ****. (Think--pulling up a dress on a woman from the bottom up. )You won't be able to pull the boot off because the hole in the boot is too small to fit over the ****. Pull it up somewhat tight so the boot is taught against the bottom of the ****. Your boot should be inside out at this point, with the boot ring above the ****.

-take some twine or string or thin covered wire and tie off the boot. You should be tying it off so the string fits into that groove mentioned above that's at the base of the ****. It doesn't need much pressure or anything--just tie it somewhat tight so it won't come untied.

-Now pull the boot ring back down and snap it into place. It will look perfect. The string in the groove won't be visible because it's under the boot and it will look like factory.

Yep. Someone else posted the same advice long ago but used an O-ring instead of twine to secure the boot. I had some kite string and used that and it looks great.

Default Z06 shift box rattle

The shifter rattle originates from the solid horizonal mount Z06 shift box. Swapping over to a C5 or any new C6 model shift box will cure that issue ( rubber insolated horizonal mounts).

Modified shifter boots are plentiful i.e. Redline or Ken King as examples.

Note that the modified King boot above is shorter and the neck is slightly wider ( C6 shift arm dampener diameter). The C5 can easily be modified . I use a harness ring for the neck , either chrome or SST can be found at any hardware store. Just fit , cut and sew the ring in place.
