Hello all, I have a 2004 vert(6800 miles) and after reading some posts about the column locking up I became concerned. First off, am I a candidate for this problem? If so, where do I get the parts to correct this situation? I don't mind doing the install, but need an outlet for the correct parts.
If you have a M6, you are a candidate. Check the maintenance history at a chevy dealer to see what fixes have occurred. If it was fixed (reflashed only), then you could still have a problem with the column lock if your battery becomes weak. With the ignition off, try turning the steering wheel, if it is locked, then the by-pass has not been installed. Contact Corvettes Of Houston as one source of the CLB by-pass. I know the World Class Techs say that the Column Lock fix by GM is correct, but what happens if when the battery becomes low and you are out somewhere? Installing the CLB is not difficult. If you have an automatic tranny, forget the rest this advice.
