I recently purchased a 2000 convertable. When ever I pop open the trunk it doesn`t open far enough to get my fingers under it to open it. Would anyone know if there is away to adjust this? And what is the best thing to take away small scratches in the paint. Thanks
I entered "Vert trunk open" and found the thread I used to solve the problem on my own car. Great simple fix that has lasted me over a year to date and still going strong. Some people also add a spring from Home Depot but this is way easier and then you don't have a Home Depot spring on your car.
On the scratches the only way to get rid of them is to level the paint. That being said start with a mild polish, work up to a compound, use wetsanding as a last resort. Just start with the least abrassive and if the scratch is still there work your way up to more aggressive products. I like 3Ms line up of polishes, compounds, and pads.
I've tried all the "lube the hinge points", "bend the spring", close the door after you pop the trunk, etc, etc and the only thing that has worked long term and reliably is the added spring called the Trunk Popper. Don't waste your time with the other recommendations.
PS I have nothing to do with the product other than a satisfied user of it.
