Default oil changing Q

I have had my car now for a little over 2 years, oil has been =changed twice, but whats in there is over a year old, I changed it as soon as I got the car, and again just before leaving over a year ago for a trip to the sand box. I am back now, and the baby has had over 3 K miles put on it. total on the car since owning it is 17K, regardless oil has been in the car over a year, and the on board CPU says it is at 43-46 percent. Should I go ahead and change it since summer is coming here in LA.

Advice and opinions appreciated.

Thanks

As a rule, I don't leave used oil - even synthetic, in for longer than a year. It's not like it'll ruin the engine, just my own personal standard.

You could always send a sample out and have it tested.

Regular driving, change it when the DIC says to (or at whatever % you are comfortable with) or at one year, whichever is shortest is what I do.

1 year old oil=dump it. Then you don't need to think about it. It just feels better driving with fresh, clean oil

All I've read,,you CAN run good synthetics for more than a year,,but I would NOT feel comfortable with that. I also do not like letting it sit over winter with old oil,,but that is just me!! Neither is a problem for me as I drive year round,,only letting her sit out the nasty winter spells!! Never sits for more than a few days or a couple of weeks. I go by the DIC and change 2-3 times a year Try this system,,you'll enjoy the car a LOT more!!

Have a sample tested and make an informed decision based on the results...

Its always a matter of personal preference but most of us Corvette gearheads would recommend changing it at least once a year. I change mine at the end of each driving season so it doesn't sit all winter with old oil allowing suspended particles to settle.

I don't drive my car many miles each year, but I do change the oil once a year, regardless of what the miles are or what the oil life monitor says.
