For a while now, when my car is cold, when I start it up, it whistles, pretty high pitch to the point where i can hear it clearly with my windows rolled up.
the higher the rpm's the faster the noise gets...
the longer my car is on, the more the noise goes away, after about 6-7 minutes, the noise is gone.
also may be related or unrelated but after my car heats up, sometimes my I start smelling burnt plastic like a hot glue gun?
I guess my steering column had a gm sticker peeling off of it, and when i steered it would rub against my long tubes. the long tubes had some of the sticker burnt onto it. i removed the sticker, but the plastic is still on the long tube, but very little. all i know is that the smell is still just as potent, was that not the problem?
planning on taking it in this weekend unless i find the problem.
From: LA/OC border, probably sittin' under the patio, by the pool...smokin' a cigar! SoCal
Belts/tensioner/idlers maybe. Picked up my C5 last month, did the same thing you described here. On start up, (cold), heard hi-pitched squeel. Put new Gator belts, idlers, tensioner.....no more noise!
edit- re-read post, maybe exhaust leak. Small leak somewhere, then when things heat up, leak is closed when the metals heatup/expand and seal off the air leak.
