Useless cover
There's a small compartment cover under the ashtray/lighter cover that seems to be just for the ashtray area, but mine won't stay down....it doesn't appear to be broken...anybody else have this useless little cover????

I dont think it is supposed to stay down, i think it pops up when you lift the big cover. At least that is what mine always did.

It is supposed to pop up when you open the outer lid. That's the way mine works.

That whole piece comes out. I removed mine and keep my garage remote in there.

The door that folds down on the exterior is plastic, so they added the inner metal door to contain the ashtray contents in a four sided metal box when it is closed.

Same here but I actually removed the ashtray to fit the opener. I also have my Escort remote mute switch sitting in there.

That metal cover that does not stay down is intended to snuff out a smoldering cigarette butt left in the ashtray. I don't smoke in any of my cars, but I do enjoy my cigars.

This is good to know. I thought mine was broken so I taped it shut. LOL. Don't use it anyway.
