Anyone ever replace the little gasket on the fuel cap? I am throwing evap codes every couple weeks and it seems that my gasket is severely dried and cracked all over the place, I'm guessing that is why.
Just wondering if its something I can take apart or if I just have to get a whole new one?
Luckily you don't have smog testing in Florida. New caps are not that much. I only had ~35K on mine last year (10 yr old car) when I had to replace it due gas cap pressure test failure during smog test.
Hahah yeah all it does for me is pop a code every so often and MIGHT vapor off a bit of fuel every so often. I might just squirt in some RTV and see how that works.
My '99 failed our emissions test here in Colorado because of the cracks in that gasket....$20 at the Chevy dealer and I was good to go.
Even with the cracks it passed the emissions portion of the test, it was the pressure test it failed....leaking fumes is bad according to the emissions folks...

They are not very expensive at all.
IF, on the other hand, you have a tether and want to keep it, I found you can use a small screwdriver and remove the old gasket (More like a rubber o-ring) and replace it with the gasket from the new cap. It's usually the gasket that dries out/cracks/fails over time and not the rest of the cap. I tried a swap like that and it also works like a charm.
