I was planning on painting the lower rear portion of my rear bumper matte black to go with my new ACI splitter on the front. My son and his friend that owns Van Steel Corvettes recommended doing a vinyl wrap.
Has anybody done theirs in vinyl, and if so what was the cost. I realize it is a lot more than if I do it myself with the rattle cans, but then again if I should decide to put it back to stock, I would need to have the whole rear area repainted.

You need to check with C5VetteLS1 for your rear cover. He helped me and others here and is great to work with.
Depends on the price. It's nice to have the option of removing it though, but I tend to think that people who have painted theirs tend to like it rather than regretting it. I thnk it looks good on certain colors but not all. It looks good with the solid tone colors ie; (torch red, white, yellow), not so much on the metallics with the exception of silver.
r u doing the vinyl urself? u can get the vinyl pretty cheap from a print shop or ebay. I installed one on my friend's G35 and we only used about $50 worth of vinyl. It's quick and easy, but make sure u have a heat gun and not a heat dryer.
Hold up, your son's friend owns Van Steel Corvettes, now thats sweet. Talk about some good mods you can get done
His father is the actual owner, but his son is more or less running it now as the father is running their powder coating business. They grew up together so he is like a second son to me.

Thats pretty sweet, they are great people to do business with, they have always been very helpful and honest. To make this about your original thread, give the vinyl a shot, i could have swore i have read some members doing it to there car.

C5vetteLS1 does vinyl, an actual plastic cover or paint? I know you said cover but i'm not exactly clear on what he can help with.

Wait a sec, so by your math if i save up a little bit more money i could simply buy the actual plastic overlay that seems to be insanely overpriced for what it is? That doesn't seem right. I would think doing such a small section in vinyl would be far more cost effective than the plastic piece and certainly not as permanent as a rattle can.
I wanted to put one on my C5 vette, but my vette is gloss black, and it just doesn't do it on a black vehicle... But I love the looks and I'm still thinking about it. I was going to purchase the vinyl wrap for about $299. But waiting to see if anyone with a black vette installed one and will post it on this forum.. Haven't seen one yet... still on the fence....

The gloss black / matte black contrast is actually very visually appealing to me. Not a C5, but here's a black car with matte black on the tail panel: LINK
KerryT1, thanks, I've put it back on the "Things to look into". I'm still waiting to see if any Black C5 has done this, I get a visual, but I really need to see the real thing. I just may go that route. I like it on the C6 (Black C6 with matte panel) so I think it would look as good as the C6.... Thanks
so i just watched several vids about it and it looks pretty good. Installation looks simple as heck compared to other products, maybe a 6pack and a friend could get this done on a saturday afternoon.
