I am going to disconnect the battery to replace it. I have heard that one should turn the security off to keep from throwing codes. Will turning it off keep ANY codes from showing up when the new battery is connected?

Proably not, you may get some loss of communication codes but no big deal, just clear them. One thing is if you use the security function on the radio it may go to "LOC" and if you don't know the code it could be a problem. If your radio has a red blinking light your radio is using the theft function.

I plug a 12 volt source in the cig lighter and back feed power so I don't loose any settings on my head unit.

I've heard of those, but never seen one. How does the charge get to the battery? It must have a battery connection from the unit back to the battery posts.

You shouldn't have any problems when switching the battery except for the above mentioned radio going into the LOC mode. If you don't have the blinking light on, it won't go into the LOC mode anyway.
