Default Question about body side raised ridge

A friend of mine is looking to buy a 1997 thru 2002 Corvette.

In looking at these cars , we have seen some cars that have a raised ridge that runs from the vent behind the front wheen and then back along the door.

Other cars do nit have this, but one the ones that do, the raised ridge appears to be a part of the body, not a snapped on door edge protector.

Can someone explain what this ridge is and why some cars have it and others do not?

Thank
David

BSM or Body Side Molding.... it's a factory option so that's why you see it on only some cars.

It's to protect against door-dings.

Some people like the look, some don't.

It is called "Body Side Moulding" It is a option. It is just 2 way taped on, it can easily be removed... Heat up, use fishing tackle... and Goo Gone for the tape...

I have not been looking , but my friend who may have only looked so far on the internet said it looked like a part of the actual body , not attached.

Thanks

On some colors they do look like they are part of the body because they kind of blend in. But they all come off unless it's custom.

Oh my Can't believe this is being asked...

Do you actually own a Vette?

The body side molding, wow. Please, please what is next a question? Why there are four wheels on a Vette, that with it's power, you should be able to take off one of the front wheels and the forward inertia will keep the car level........

I'm sorry, the forum exists to help people and I have said, there is no stupid question, after this I may have to retract that statement.

Can we think about common sense and possible do a search on subjects so that we don't subject ourselves to embarrassment.

Sorry didn't mean to

Yeah, you're ranting! I asked the same thing years ago when I first started closely examining the C5.

Let's let everyone feel free to ask questions... I'll take care of the pretentious old time snobs.

Even though there are threads saying how easily it can be removed, I passed on several cars that had it. I didn't want to remove the BSM and see an unfaded color underneath.

I think the BSM breaks up the otherwise smooth lines of the C5.
