Ok, I got car out of storage about 4 weeks ago. At the same time I also replaced stock shifter with the RSD snap shifter (2010 C6Z with shortened shaft).
Didnt notice anything weird or any problems for the first week, in fact it was a huge improvement over the stock unit (still is).
Over the last few weeks ive been having issues with 1st gear and reverse sometimes. Now ive been driving stick my whole life and have had this car four (4) years and have never had trouble.
I dont know if its the shorter throws throwing me off or what but i am rarely confident it is all the way in gear unless i go from neutral into 1st and back and forth a few times til i can feel it for sure all the way up in there. Ive had it pop out, grind numerous times now and just dont understand why. Evrytime i come to a stop I have to go from 2nd to first and back a couple times to make sure its fully in.
So yesterday I drained the trans fluid which was RP and replaced with reg Dex III ATF. No improvement to date.
So tomorrow I figure im gonna put the stock shifter back in and see if the problem persists.
I suppose that you did not mark the position of the OEM shifter as reference . So you either have to re-align the modified C6 shifter, and or swap out the clutch fluid.
I put in a C6 shifter a couple weeks ago and ran into the exact same problem. Did some reading and came upon a thread about adjusting the shifter location on the torque tube. I moved it as far forward as I could, first and reverse engage no problems but shifting now feels to notchy for me. I moved it back just a touch and left the console out to make sure I like the location before putting it all back together. Unfortunately up here we got a snow storm and I haven't been able to test it out, hopefully tomorrow.
The attached linked is what I found helpful (see 5th post in thread).
Thanks for the link. I never thought to mark the location with the old shifter still in place.
Ill do what you did today and try out til i get it where it needs to be!
This morning I removed the console and took a look at the shifter. The whole unit was back (towards rear of car), I loosened the two torx and slid it forward all the way then centered it and re-tightened.
MUCH better now going into 1st gear, just like it used to be.
Good link too, I have been searching the last couple days but never came across that thread.
