So I bought my first Vette, a beautiful C5 coupe a couple of weeks ago. The previous owner had replaced the valve stem caps with some chrome bullet shaped ones that stick out a little farther than a normal cap. I didn't think too much about it, but tonight I parked too close to a curb, caught the tip of the cap, and it sheared off the valve stem.
Fortunately I have the original run-flat tires, but I'd like to get the stem replaced as quickly as possible. Questions: Do I have to replace the whole pressure sensor? Can I use an ordinary valve stem (no pressure sensor) for the time being?
(Needless to say, I'll be replacing the other valve stem caps).
Thanks for your help!
The sensor has to be replaced. The valve stems are built into the sensor. What year depends on what you're going to pay. 97-99 are expensive compared to 00-04. What year is your vette?

That cap must of really been sticking out..... I would say it would have to be 4 inches long.....
Sorry about your trouble, As Tim said if you have TPMS you will need to buy a new one.
As far as just putting a plain valve in it, Don't do it, Your Vette deserves better than that..
Just replace it. I don't think a regular valve stem will work due to the inside of the wheel where the sensor is. Even if it did work you will have to pay to break the tire remove the sensor and then when you get the new sensor you'll have to do it over again. For me the least number of times my rims are on a tire machine the better it is.
The caps are only 1 1/4 in long - just long enough to cause trouble on an inflexible valve stem. The car is an '00 which I think was the last of the expensive sensors. I hope I can get it locally since I don't want to wait for mail order.
Thanks for your help, guys.
