I always get these guys in imports thinking they can take on my car almost as much as people who say "nice car" and so on....

last night was yet another one. An Acura. A 90's Integra I think. Giant wing, Huge tail pipe, stickers and all. Who knows what or even if he had anything under the hood.

At the redlight he asked me "if I wanted to go?" I said "no thanks" in a normal tone and he replied. "Thats right, can't pull past this thing"

The light changed and he gunned it ahead of me.

I don't know about where anyone else is but I know in IL street racing is a felony. To me it just wasn't worth it. I am glad I had the self control though, because I know it is never worth it.

 

I find it usually works best to laugh uncontrollably at them then say, thats a good one.

 

I usually just roll down the window and say "You must be 8 cylinders tall to ride this ride, little boy."

 

Well played! One of the pitfalls of owning a Corvette is that even if you're out for a nice cruise, anyone with a fart can muffler wants to test you. Comes with the territory I guess.

When that happens to me I give the thumbs up and in a second I turn the thumb down and it really pisses them off. Glad you were able to hold back.
Now, Don't underestimate the integra's, a few years ago we had a 89 I think it was with a jackson supercharger that my son built and it was fast. Scary fast. He works at Summit Racing and has a great discount.

I just ask them "you race off duty police officers?" --then I just raise my window before they can say a word. I'm not saying that I am a LEO, just asking if they would want to do that (in general, theoretically).

Recently I had a real low life in a stock 88 GT mustang (a real POS) start speeding up as I was casually passing on the right on a 2 lane hwy. I did not tail gate him and was going to pass his car b/c he was driving really slow. I just slightly throttled to pass him and he starts to speed up and I thought, is this guy serious?

Once I pass him (without cutting him off), he speeds up and starts to tail gate me which really pissed me off and at the next light, he pulls next to me and revs so I just rolled up my windows and ignore him.

This apparently upsets him and he starts to do a real weak burnout and then drives up 5 car lengths to the next closest car. He starts driving side to side drawing attention to himself and then later turns off at another intersection.

I resisted the temptation to smack him down and just ignored him.

Trust me, this was not one of those project sleepers or anything like that. The guy was missing some anteriors and looked really dumb. I'm not just saying that cause he was in a mustang--I don't think most mustangers would claim this guy as one of their own.

Although, a newer model stang started driving even with him and pointing over at my z06 like they were offended by the presence of my vette. I have a small picture of my wife, 3 and 6 yr old kiddos in my car just to remind me of why it's not worth it.

I will admit, it can be hard sometimes to resist shutting some folks down on the street, however the majority of those looking for street-action have NOTHING to lose but themselves--single, very young and very ego-minded and stupid.

 

Smart move,,you NEVER know who might be ahead or behind you if you decide to get stupid!! It's dangerous,,my ego has nothing proved,,and it's not worth the risk of hurting someone or getting busted. In Illinois,,not certain,,but I believe conviction can lead to forfeiture of your car as well as all the other penalties!!

 

I always either tell them "heck yeah" or I'll act like I'm about to launch off the line, and then when the light changes, I just accelerate normally and watch them look like morons. Of course I always hope there is a cop nearby as well.

 

All I can say is you guys have way more will power than I will ever possess

 

lol i just got back from doing some cruising and i had a similiar situtaion with a civic that a full body kit and exhaust. definitly not worth it man. btw where in chicago do u live? i usualltr cruise on cicero and archer area
