With stock wheels, I get heavy vibration (even in steering wheel) driving above 75 miles per hour. (120km/hr).
With after market wheels (fully balanced), I also got heavy vibration (even in steering wheel) above 60 miles per hour. (~100km/hr).
I have a suspicion it is something with the vehicle, not the wheels. What is the first thing I should check?
Also, on a straight flat road, it feels like the car suddenly goes off balance (even when gripping the steering wheel hard and holding in position) randomly left or right at will. There is some "play" that seems dangerous (beyond just an alignment issue?).
have tie rods and all bushings checked out. Sounds like something is done and needs some tlc
What's the RPM when you get this vibration ? If it's around 1500 to 2300 you might have something in the torque tube or the clutch ? Do you feel it in the seat more than the streeing wheel, or the other way around ?
I had a similar problem. I changed the last wheel bearing assembly today and it's smooth as silk again. It was driving me insane. Mine is an 03 with only 36000 miles and all 4 were bad.
Thanks guys. I'll keep you posted and let you know what I find out.
I had the back two wheel bearings replaced because of noise (completely unrelated). It's an automatic so can't be clutch issue. I seem to feel it equally in steering wheel and seat. Not sure if the Front bearings could be causing it.
I am suspecting tie rods/bushings but I'm just trying to help guide a mechanic locally to figure it out.
