I have been following the board for sometime and likely will purchase a z06 this summer. I'm waiting to see what the 03 model has to offer before I buy. Anyway...I love everything about the car, except the seats. I've done searches on changing the seats out for some shells and haven't come across much. Has anyone done it? I know there aren't many out there that fit. I'm actually interested in putting in some cobras. From the supertuner issue of C&D last year, I saw the mallett car did list cobra seats as one of the modifications...so it must be possible. I'd like to fit in a set of these...
Check with Gary Hoffman @ hardbar.net -- he makes rails to fit Sparco "Evo" and "Evo 2" seats (I believe). Both are fixed-back seats like the Cobras, but I don't know if the Cobras themselves fit without major modifications,
From what I understand, the WIDTH of most aftermarket seats is the major limiting factor here. Good luck!
I agree that the stock seats suck. I don't know why the Z06's didn't ger sport seats. I have done a fair amount of looking at replacing the stock seats. The Hardbar seat mount seems to work well. The problem as I understand is that it is a fixed mount. If you have different drivers, or use the car on the street it may not be a great option. Someone at Doug Rippie emailed me last week and said that they will have a manually adjustable seat mount kit available in the next few weeks!
Another possible problem to consider is that the air bags will not function without some sort of jumper if the stock seats are removed. Also check the with of the seat you are interested in installing. The C5 is limited on space. I know the Sparco EVO and EVO2 will fit. What do the cobra seats sell for? I think the Sparco seats retail for $569 with free shipping.
Z06 Andy,
The seats I posted are CF seats weighing about 15lbs and costing over $1500 each. There is a fiberglass version that cost substantially less.
Also, thanks for the sparco install post Lambinator.
