I replace the water pump 2 weeks ago and last night I threw the belt. It was brand new also. The auto store said that maybe the adjustment pulley was bad. I was pulling sohigh rpm when this occured. I ordered a new adjustment pulley assem. and a goodyear belt from summit racing. Hope this is the fix
Belt tension is not adjustable you have a tensioner that is spring loaded. I would put old belt on start it up and watch the harmonic balancer. These car have a problem with the balancer seperating and causing belts to walk. Been there and it sucks.
If you installed the belt correctly following the guide sticker under the hood and if the tensioner is still good then something is wrong with the pulley alignment.......
Are you sure you got the correct Corvette waterpump? How do they compare size wise? (just a thought).
Check your tensioner to be sure it is not out of specs. There are marks on there to give you a basic idea, and there are diy threads here about more finite information.
Do also (as mentioned earlier) check your balancer. Could be a bigger problem than just a thrown belt.

That was my issue the balancer was bad and threw the belt . I had it replaced with a fliudapner from summit
I had thrown a belt once during a hard acceleration.
The belt was a fairly new Goodyear Gatorback.
I think there was an issue with the idler pulley as well.
I replaced the idler and installed Gates belts and have not had any trouble.
