2000 dash question

Default 2000 dash question
To the right of my steering wheel, there is a square opening and do not know what the purpose is. The owners manual is of no help.

sensor for the interior temp. Do not touch the little wire.

If you are talking about the one to the left of the ignition switch. I'm not sure if cars with manual a/c controls have that but my Z06 has it and I have climate control system.
