How many of you have the Helms service manual? It cost quite a bit but I am assuming it is quite handy to have around especially for those who are mechanically challenged :D Is it a good investment? I think they run $120.
This is a huge, 3-volume set of books that tell you just about anything you'd want to know about the car. Access to a complete description of the trouble codes is sufficient to justify the purchase. This is not your basic 'Chilton' manual. Highly recommended. You can get them a little cheaper from Ken Fichtner.
I JUST ordered mine from Sam Smith at FairwayChevy - only $95 + shipping and handling. You can call him at 800-395-1440. Not sure if this is the best price but it is better than $120 full price.
Do you do some of your own maint.? If not, don't buy them, it's that simple. I would always buy a set for any car I owned, but then again I do my own repairs.
I just sold a car to a man who did not do any maintenance. I also sold him the Helms manual for that car too. I convinced him that even IF he never did any of his own work, he could still verify what a mechanic was stating as plausable, and learn more about the car. I think if your are a car enthusiast, you would want the manuals if you could understand them. Its a personal preferance thingy too.
