My 98 has the rear-mounted,non repairable, very pricey EBCM -If it ever goes out,It's gonna be big bucks to replace(and it's nothing but in the way when doing a clutch change)
I believe GM went to the front mounted, repairable model from '99 on.
But it is what it is,and right now it's fine.
Might be something to consider when Vette shopping, though

Later models without Magnetic Ride are the best for low maintence-EBCM can be repaired checp, TPS monitors are cheaper too. The mag shocks are BIG $$$ when they die. 02' verts had the better weather stripping to keep the top from rubbing the tonneau cover too so I would vote for 02-04.
The ZO-6
had 385 hp in 01 and 02 on up they had 405 hp. Good luck.
I didn't think the C5 ZO6 came in Vert... thought they were all FRC and this guy wants a vert.
I finally bought my first Vette in February. I wanted a Targa and went with a great deal on an 01 in the color I had to have - RED.
Make sure you get a CarFax. I also took mine to a Chevy dealer and paid $85 for the 200pt inspection. It had high miles, but came out clean on both so I bought it and love it. I've put 5K miles on it in less than 4 months and have had no problems.
Good luck with your purchase and let us know how it goes.
I have a '99 Z51 mag red vert and absolutely love the car. It does have HUD...a terrific feature. I would get the car in the best condition with the lowest mileage I could find and afford (preferably from the original owner as I did), irrespective of year. There are more than a few garage queens out there. My next criteria would be equipment. I prefer Z51 over other suspensions; others don't...so if I were you I would try out cars with varying suspensions before buying. As someone mentioned, there is selective ride, but I'm told it's very expensive to replace if it goes south on you. My last criteria would be the year. Good luck with your search. Driving your new car will put a smile on your face.
I went for the 03 Coupe. It was the newest model I could afford and it had all four of my requirements: Electron Blue Metallic color, A4, HUD, and Magnetic Selective Ride (F55). The MSR is a nice feature and it is very functional. I have never had an issue with it. The replacement shocks will be expensive but, I figured if they ever wear out I will replace the system with the Pfadt coilovers.
Same here, 99 with HUD, Z51, ect... I know you want a vert, and you should get what you want. Just for info sake, my 99 has been trouble and repair free and a great joy.
