Hey guys,
Im thinking of putting a LS6 crate motor in my 2000 C5.
Id like input from the LS6 guys that dropped in a procharger on top, what problems you've run into with the motor holding together, and what your putting down at the wheels
LS6 blocks aren't ideal for a supercharger. The cylinder walls aren't as thick as the LS1 blocks. The LS6 cam is pretty good for FI applications though. An LS6 is fine up to about 550RWHP if that's all you're going, but I wouldn't go more than that. An A&A kit will put you at 520-530RWHP safely.
IMO, if you already have a good LS1 block, you should just pick up a set of LS6 heads and an LS6 cam and use your stock LS1 block.
And of course, do all the supporting maintenance: LS6 oil pump, new timing chain, rods, lifters, etc.
LS6 has a few short comings... But it's still a great engine. Most people that want to make power either go to a forged/sleeved LS6 block or an LS2 block.
550hp is kinda the limit. It's not a procharger but my 01 Z w/a paxton put down 552hp and pulls to the moon! It's only a matter of time but for now the only issue I have is the clutch.
I have a 02 Z06 heads, cam, full exhaust and a procharger D1-sc. I had the heads sent out to lower the compression down. Over 600 no problems. Good luck.
Stock LS6 running 668 RWHP for the past 5 years. No problems. Roadcourse days and plenty of backroad fun runs. Not a procharger but still forcefed stock LS6. Get a good tuner!

Ughh I want your turbo kit....bet its a blast to drive!
The LS1 from 97 to 98 had a thinner cylinder wall from what I remember. After that the LS6 and LS1 had the same wall thickness. As everyone is saying, 550RWHP is about the limit of this block then the pistons and rods become a weak point of the motor. However, it is really how well you tune your motor. Flash_of_red's tune must be very well done with proper safegaurds in the tune to prevent pre-ignition. Again, the tune is a critical point if your going over 500RWHP.
I personally do not like the search feature of this site as it doesn't search well. For example, the #7 piston on these motors have been known to blow. I did a search of all kinds using different phrases and words. I did find it after some time but it was a pain in the azz.
I now simply use google with (+ ls1) or (+ ls6) and get crazy amounts of info. No disrespect to this site as its one of the BEST corvette forums on the internet and the guys posting know their sh*t; just saying I found more info that way.
Take it for what its worth... Its better to be blown then to suck!
