Should gauges peg during start up?
Hi,
I just bought my first C5 (2001) and wondered: Is this is normal?
With my 35th Anniversay Trans Am (1999), when the gauges pegged during start up it meant the battery was on the way out. I'd have the battery tested, it was weak and the gauge pegging went away when a new battery was installed.
Thanks in advance

I think what you're explaining is normal.
You turn the key, the gauges go to the very end and then come back to rest on their normal positions? If so, ya that's normal.

This is only the second post since I've been here that there's been a consensus...
I believe oem electronic gauges sweep as part as their designed calibration process. At least that's how after market street rod manufacturers explained their products to me.

They're called "Full Sweep" gauges. They do this as a self test. It's perfectly normal.

That's the way they are designed.
