M6 shift point

Default M6 shift point

I have a jeep JK and found that i get better mpg when i shift at 2500-3000. Is there a prefered shift point on the m6 in the c5 to get optimum perf. and economy. I know i will get hammered for this question, but i'm really just curious where the point it since i didn't know the best point on my jeep. Thx for any info......

Performance and economy are two widely varying animals in the C5!! Performance,,,nail you shifts right at 6 grand and have FUN!!!Last pass of the night,,and I pulled a 13.08/110.24 doing that!! Economy,,you can short shift,,and skip gears. If it hasn't been by passed,,the factory programs in a 1 to 4 skip on stock manual transmissions. These cars have tremendous low end torque,,and as long as you are not going up grade and or trying to accelerate too hard,, you can pull a pretty tall gear,,at pretty low RPM,,,as long as you are experienced enough to recognize it if you get into a "lugging" situation!! I manage low 20's in city driving,,,WHEN I manage to behave myself!! Problem is ,,is that behaving yourself all the time is NOT easy!! Just putting around I often go 1-3-5-6 around town!! These cars are very versatile!!

I might be a little off on this but I think the owners manual states that for best economy you should shift to 2nd @15mph, 3rd @ 25, 4th @ 40, 5th @ 45 and 6th at 50.

Well with 375 ft/lb of torque, I shift in normal driving at 2000 rpm normally. There is no loss of acceleration at that point for normal "city" driving.

Now, with the cutouts open, I seem to hear the rev-limiter a lot.....so go figure.

15, 25, 40, 45, 50 for fuel economy (in manual).
1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6 (gear shifts)
