Fix for the WCC Engine Cover Brackets
The problem with the brackets is the custom rubber inserts with the threaded brass collars. Initially these rubber inserts looked like a pretty elegant solution, unfortunately they don't stand up to the engine heat when tightened down and as a result they tear apart causing the cover to rattle and makes it difficult to remove as they tear apart completely the first time you try to remove the cover. My second photo shows how they split apart just before they fail. Also a replacement set of inserts is about $25 and they don't last any longer.
So, what I did was get some nuts at Lowes the same size/thread as the brass collars and had a welder tack-weld them flush with the brackets ($2.00). I then used 3M Super weatherstrip adhesive to affix some 1/4 Rubber washers to the tops for cushioning. I also bought some better 1/4 Nylon washers for the outside of the covers also at Lowes. Anyway, now the cover fits solid and will stand up to the heat.
So if you have a similar cover, might be worth a few bucks to try something like this?
