Default First timed runs!

Had a chance to run 16 laps at an auto-x practice. My first with the ZO6 (1000 miles on the clock so far). Interesting experience. I ran the best time of all stock cars on stock tires of the day. I ran better than a whole litany of R tire cars, including a C4 and a Z/28 Camaro on race rubber, so I guessI had a good time! Another ZO6, running Hoosiers and Penske shocks was the fastest at 64 seconds flat. I ran a 68.01. about 10 of 75 cars ran sub 70, two ZO6's and three M coupes were in that group. One M coupe on Yoky AO32R's (my old tires), ran a 65.80, the closest anyone got to the '01 ZO6.

I really liked the ZO6 on the course, but it is really over-powered for such events IMHO. It takes a very smooth and careful use of the throttle. The car accelerates so quickly, it's way too easy to over-drive the corner entires. But, get it right, and the car really works. It dances quite nicely! It's an absolute gas to power oversteer around a few big corners, just for fun (kills lap times though.) The car also rewards smooth driving, rotates perfectly with a little throttle lift, and is very predictable and settled. I'm very happy.

Everyone stops to watch the ZO6's when they are on course, as they just look great on the boil.

Chewed the tires up a little, but I've decided that's just the way it goes. I'll run 'em till they're bald and put new ones on and get back at it!

Traction control and stability control are absolutely useless on race courses. I'm also not an auto-x fan as a rule. To spend all day to get 18 minutes of track time seems silly. I'm a road course lover, preferring the rythm and speed of big tracks. Nothing like powering through a big sweeper at 125 to get the head in order! That said, I've always had a good time with auto-x folks, nice people that are always helpul. Great place to get a handle on a new toy!

Now I'm addicted big time. Time for some big track time! This car is going to be an abslute killer with some minor sorting out. Time to drop that susoension!

One small complaint. When you switch off the traction control, the dash display will not allow you to view any other data (except the warning about the traction control being switched off), like oil temp. That's kinda silly if you ask me!

Hit the reset button on the DIC panel and you can bring up any data you want.
