A guy bumped my c5 this morning on an off ramp, probably less than 5mph. I only noticed very minor cosmetic damage (a paint chip and a some small scratches). I contacted my insurance, but didn't file a claim or call the cops, since the damage appeared so minimal.
Another factor is my car is a daily driver with over 100K on it. It's and paint already has some "character". I figure an insurance claim showing up on carfax when I sell it will probably effect the value more than a couple more little scratches.
That said, what can I look for to make sure there is not any unseen damage to the rear end? Is there anything specific / common to my c5 that I should look for? Thanks!
I just got bumbed this weekend by the 25 year old kid, probably only going about 5 mph. I don't want to take it in to the dealership, because of the bumper to bumper coverage and any car fax. What did you end of doing on yours?
Be safe and have everything checked. I was rear ended at a redlight. While it did smash the crap out of the front of her new altima, i had a scrpaed up rear end and bent exhaust. Car drove fine and I waited several months to get it fixed.
Turns out the collision cracked the rear tub. What my adjuster thought would be 500-800 turned into 4 weeks and 6,300.
Just saying, crawl under and look it over if you arent sure!
In my case I ended up doing nothing. After having it looked at (by someone other than me), there really wasn't anything to do. It was a sub 5MPH bump, and the bumper did what ti was supposed to do.
