Default Speaker system

im looking at getting my speaker box and amp installed in my 2000 Coupe..i vguely remember someone talking about having very little room for error due to possibly hitting the gas tank and to avoid Best Buy..

Anyone with any insight on this please chime in, or anyone with suggestions!

If your mounting the amp behind the seats make sure they use an mdf board or something liquid nailed to the car. Have them mount the amp into the board but not to use screws longer than the thickness of the mdf they use.

You can also put the amp on back firewall as well or possibly under passenger seat too depending on the amp used.

keep in mind if using stock head unit you will need what i sell in the aoem-vet1 harness for this.

You can go to the audio section on the forum and there is tons of info there,

What are you looking to do, You can get a speaker plate to put 6.5 woofer and tweets in the doors and put an amp either on the back rear wall, or behind the seats. I have my amps mounted behind my seats. I glued MDF to the car under the carpet and then screwed the amps to that. The sub box will fit into the rear cubby and it just drops in(no need to screw). hope this helps.

Oh how do you like that Head unit and how does it sound?

Personally, I wouldnt mount anything behind the seats....

You can get a pre-fab unit such as this one....but it completely eliminates the center cargo well and you have to be certain nothing falls onto the speaker damaging it...

Here's the set-up I installed in my 99 Coupe...It even made the C5 Registry magazine...I used two 8 inch square Solo-Baric speakers...They fit perfectly in the C5 Coupe cargo well......Yes, it eliminates use of the well, but the C5 Coupe has plenty of cargo space....I also had to relocate my CD changer, as well as make a custom perforated lid for the cargo well...

I had to go another route with my C5 Convertible as I didnt want to lose the center cargo well, nor did I want to lose the ability to stack anything on top of the cover..cargo space is very limited in the C5 convertible if you lose the center well and the ability to stack stowables on top of it......

I went with a custom sub enclosure which anchors in the passenger side cubby and a 10 inch JL Audio Dub 3 sub, along with a JL amp in the center cargo well....theres still room for other stowables in it...and I can stack items on top of the cover with it in place since it's only a 200 watt amp which doesnt generate too much heat.....I did not have to reloctae the CD changer in the Convertible..

When it came to my C6Z I didnt have a center cargo well to utilize...so I went all out with a one-off custom sub enclosure with a 10 inch JL Audio dub 3 subwoofer driven by a 600 watt Alpine amp...This thing KICKS A$$!!!!!.....I retained ALL the factory Bose equipment in all three cars...You'd be amazed at the difference a decent subwoofer makes with the Bose system..

NNIAL8R, I like the side speaker setup. Since you have both you would be the guy to ask, which one provides better bass? Is there a noticeable difference and where did you get the side enclosure?

There's no doubt the Coupe has a better bass response because of the open sound chamber vs the restriction the Convertible has just from the design of the car....Plus, my Coupe has a 1000 watt amp and two subs (each 8inch SoloBaric performs as a ten inch round sub would)....However, if youre considering using the "side" set-up in a Coupe Im sure as long as you have a quality amp and sub youll be happy with the results....Many folks dont want to lose that center cargo space......In fact, I considered using the "side" speaker set-up in my C6Z....but the C6Z only has one side cubby (the other one has the battery in it)...and I really didnt want to lose the only cubby in the back...I keep cleaning supplies, etc in it)

I had a buddy make the Convertible side enclosure for me (he works in fiberglass)....He still has the specs if youre interested in having him make you one...It will fit in either coupe or convertible......Let me know if youre interested and I'll PM you his info...

Thanks, it's a few items down on my list of wants but I had been wondering how well the side one performed, I like the idea of saving the center cubby. Like I said it will be a little while but couldn't pass up asking someone who actually had both.

Thanks again
