Default I-Pod install

I ordered the cables from Double "D" Mods and it works great! Now the dilemma of how and where to put the I-Pod. I'm looking for some ideas here. I guess I could run the wire up into the armrest and have the I-Pod hidden which is OK but then every time I wanted to change it I have to open the arm rest. What has everyone else done?

How easy was the install. I just bought an I-Pod, because we just bought a new GMC Acadida and it has the I-Pod connection. I was thinking of adding a connection to my '01.

I bought this also from DD Mods he is a great guy to deal with and it only took me 45 minutes to install. I put mine in the arm rest as well.

If you look at the inside of the console you'll see a place where the cable can go, a small slot where you would run a power cord. It's just to the right of center toward the front. I did drill a hole to bring the cord into the console. I don't think I would leave it in there on a long trip in the summer, it gets very hot in the console.

I put the wife's inside the console but hers is controlled directly by the Kenwood HU. Otherwise, I'd probably install one of the cup-holder mounts.

Patches,
The heat inside the console doesn't overheat it?

I ran the wires into the armrest console (no drilling, just ran them out from under the panel with the traction control button/passenger airbag off light). When not in use or when parked in public I leave the player in the console bin so as not to encourage smash and grab jackasses.

Mine is actually a Zune, but when using the device I remove it from the console and just sit it in the cupholder with the cord running out of the console area. The "cupholder" is useless for cups but works pretty good for the mp3 player, stays put quite well IMO.

I've thought about maybe running the cord out of the ashtray area instead, but my Zune is too big to fit in there when stored so I'm probably better off w/ it wired like it is.

I went with the Pd Aux3W by Freecom Wireless set-up that connects to the OEM radio harness with the other end into the stock radio. You don't have to lose your CD Changer with this system. I didn't drill any holes either, just took apart the console. Still have my XM radio that was installed six years ago. I still buy CD's and just in case I haven't put them on my iPhone, then I can load them in for a last minute trip.

Don't really need the XM hook up since there's an app for it, but a renewal promotion turned had it on for free for the next few weeks and $20 for the next five months if I want to keep it on. Don't know if I could get that deal on my iPhone.

Oh, since I had all of this apart, in the process of putting in Dynamat extreme.

Bill, there is absolutely no heat in the consoles of either of my C5s due to the insulation jobs I did on both. You can see the extensive insulation I added, both sound and heat, to the wife's C5 before and during the audio project. It is cool to the touch regardless of outside temp, length of trip or how hard the car is driven.

Keep mine in the armrest. Like others have already said, my head unit controls the ipod though.

Better in the armrest though, I can just lock it and leave it there without worrying.

Heres mine, I know this pic doesn't show the actual holder, but you can see how it looks. I did this for about $3.00 I bought the Ipod/phone/MP3 player holder off of Ebay for $1.98, then I took 2 black paint spray can lids and taped them together, I filled them up with big fender washers for weight stability. Then I siliconed the paint can lids to the rubber liner for the factory cup holder. It works great. I hijacked this idea from another forum member a few months back.
oh yea, the cord is run under the edge of the console to the cig lighter door at the front of the console.

When I had the MP3 player in the car I used a cheap cell phone holder and modified a piece of black plastic to fit behind the radio bezel.
