hi temps..
The other day outside temps were 100 degrees. My car temp gage went to 243 for a brief time ( 5 mimutes) ; it slowly climbed to this temp. I was driving about 60. I have a 2000 coupe.
I checked coolant and it was alittle low but not much. I added some.
Last year I installed a 180 degree thermosate as I experience the same condition; it appears to occir only on extremely hot days.
What is causing this/can this situation be remedied ?....Is it normal ?
When this happens to me,...it's usually a bunch of debris like leaves and grass that have dried up and are blocking the radiator from breathing properly... I went a whole Summer one year, back and forth with my local dealer about this...They were clueless, so I took my car up to Lingenfelter to have a look @ it. They sent me a picture of a pile of debris underneath my radiator, which had supposdly been cleaned by the dealer(I'm assuming it was just brushed off while still attached, and not taken off and presssure cleaned)...and that was the problem... The dealer claimed they couldn't even get the car to overheat...what a joke, and a lost Summer of enjoying my ride...
I would suggest having it taken off and pressure cleaned, flush it out along with the lines and you should be good to go....
Blowing out the debri from the fins of the A/C and radiator is a must, each and every spring, for care free driving temperatures in the hot summers.
GREAT INFO, I am having the same battle myself, and I bet it's the same problem......... any write up on how to remove, re-install? AND THE DAMN DEALER**** just had the water pump replaced due to leaking........... grrrrrr
Same problem is happening to me as well. I have done a search and am almost certain that a good cleaning is what I need. Didn't have a lot of luck finding a great tutorial about cleaning debris out so if anybody has a good link please post up Wondering if it can be done from the top or if I need to go from the top and bottom, planing on leaving the radiator in though.
Yeah I wanna do this as well. epically since im going back home on a very long trip and would like to know everything is gonna be alright when i do so. A DIY write up would be great!!
