Default Vette to the Prom

I let my 18 year old son take my vetter to the prom last night. I was a little anxious, buy everything was fine. I know there is a lot of opnion on both sides of this issue, but I guess it really comes down to trust. Hey I wish I had the oppertunitys our kids have, vette included!!

My older son went to several proms. I often loaned him vehicles for them. When he actually went to his,,we had bought our shark. He took that one to his,,a blue 427 4speed 69!! Last year around this time of year,,our youngest son graduated S.I.U.(S.Ill.University),,and we met him at a local Steak house. We parked our FRC out a ways. When we came out some younger people were taking cell phone pics. Turned out a Viper coupe had parked next to it. As we took a couple cell pics the driver came out,,in his tux and his PROM DATE!! His cousin let him borrow it for his prom. Said he parked next to mine as he figured it was a fellow car guy,,and would be careful,,,smart thinking!!! As stated,,,a TRUST THING!!! A wonderful thing when you have that kind of rapport and mutual respect with your kids!!! To the O.P. ,, Congrats for bringing up a good kid that you trust and respect,,,,I know and appreciate the feeling!!

My uncle lent me his 84 vette to take to my prom. 10 years later I own a 50th anniversary C5. They're contagious!

I let me son take my vert to the prom last year. No problems... I thought. After a month or so, he asked me if I had checked the Top-Down chip, to see what the max speed my car has been. I told him not in a long time, since my other son hit 143. He was grinning, so I checked it: 163! he said it was 2:00 AM, and on a stretch of toll highway. He said it was still pulling, but he got scared. Well, so much for trusting an 18-year old with a supercharged vette!

Way Cool!!!

I recall a few years ago, my Dad loan me his C3 for the prom. I can remember crankin' it up, pulling it up to wash it, left it running to warm up while I washed it...

...turns out the doors were locked, and the car was still running.

Luckily for me, my Dad was out of town for the weekend, so after about 20-mins, I finally was able to reach the power window switches on the center counsel w/ a golf club. Thank God the rubber seals on the C3's T-tops are so thick!

That'll be a day I will remember for the rest of my life... Thankfully the rest of the night went smooth....oh, and my Dad did not find out about this until years later!
