Default Virgin Trip -WOW

I bought my firct C5 two weeks ago in Phoenix Az. I left Louisiana by train (never again) on a Monday and arrived on a Wednesday. I had the Nassau Blue 99 vert with 25K miles (bought it from the original owner) in my possesion by that afternoon then headed north to the Grand Canyon. What a trip! On the road for almost two weeks over four states and put 2350 miles on the vert. The six speed operated flawlessly and according to the fuel gauge I averaged 31 mpg...even after the 80 mph posted speed limit in west Texas. The ride was very comfortable but the run flats were pretty hard at times on some highways, BUT WHAT A CAR! This car came with the original wagon wheel spokes which I don't like so I bought a set of used GM chrome rims which I will have installed next week.
Question: The car is 11 years old and I'm guessing the TPM's are wearing down. Rebuild, replace or just leave out and use regular valves????

The TPM's should be fine. I would just replace the batteries in them and they're good to go.

Congrats on the car. Sounds like a great trip home.

Don't leave the TPMS out unless you want the error messages in the DIC constantly. No way to program that out on the 1997 - 2000 cars. I would try the battery replacement solution as it is much less expensive than new and while there may be a little life left in the original batterys they are not long for this world..........

I try and replace the TPMS when I either buy new tires or get new wheels. That's the time to do it.

The TPS normally last 10 years or more.

Congrats on the new ride, As far as the TPMS goes, Keep them on, It might be the difference of making it to a tire shop or calling a flat bed.

I loved your write up. I can get enjoyment out of another corvette driver's experience.

As far as the TPMs, I would FOR SURE change batteries or have them rebuilt. There is a tutorial on youtube that's pretty good or there's guys who keep rebuilt sets - they'll send them to you and charge a deposit til you get your originals returned to them. I changed from wagons to thin spoke and put in fresh TPMs a couple months ago.

Default New ride

Congrats sounds like a fun trip. Except for the train ride.
I went with a buddy to pick up his first C5 in Miami via train. Never ever do that again. It took us 18 hrs from NC to Miami. Picked up the car and drove straight back in 13-14 hours. Oh yeah on run flats as well .

Sounds like a great trip back....I would agree with the rebuilding/new batteries on the tpms, you might want to check into non-runflats for your next set of tires...they make a world of difference with ride and noise.
