I starting this in someone else's thread so I thought I'd start this one instead...
I am installing a new pump on my 98 LS1 and it has the upgraded O ring type gaskets...The torque settings for my 98 pump is 30 lbs, but I noticed that the newer cars are @ 22 and they already have the Oring gaskets so what should I set this at??? I am at 22 right now...
Thanks

Leave it right where it is and finish putting everything back together.
Use distilled (not mineral) water instead of tap. It's mineral free and cheap. Maybe .75 to .85 a gallon at the grocery.

All later (newer) style gaskets with the aluminum carriers use the 22 lbft setting. I think maybe you are over-thinking this. Put your car back together and start enjoying it again.

Not trying to over think it I just noticed in the shop manual for 98 said 30lbs, but I thought that it might change with the newer gasket that it's set lower for the newer cars...
And no I wasn't talking about a thermostat housing Nick...
