I am not sure what type if kit it is, but not long after it was installed, I bought the car. To begin with it was tough to put the car into 1st gear, then that went away and right now REVERSE & 6TH GEAR are popping out of gear. Any advice?
Sounds like a tranny issue. I think it coincides with the shifter, but not related. Hopefully I am wrong and someone with more knowledge will chime in.
Everything that's ever been asked/answered about a C5/Z06 technical problem can be found in the archives. The trick is in the keywords used. Then your research of the old threads will find a solution to your issue.
In C5 Tech, use search or search this forum (in the red banner). In your case, use "c5 shifter alignment procedure" as the keywords. You'll find hundreds of past threads, many with images and original factory service manual procedures. It's a free DIY project.
If yours is an after market shifter, it could be as simple as the wrong length 1/4"-20 mounting bolts were used for the installation of a billet type shifter. The oem shifter used shorter bolts. The bolts can loosen allowing the shifter mechanism to move ever so slightly, which makes shifting difficult.
There has been a ton of write ups on this subject. "Search" funtion is your friend! Go to to Tech, top right of page click on to "Search this forum". Type in the box that comes up, something like shifter adjustment. That is where I would start. It may be as simple as removing your console and seeing if all 3 screws are tight on the shifter box/trans shaft. Good time to get things in allignment, while in there. Good luck.
PS. Hot wheels has given you great info. Happy searching!
