Default question about HIDS

I got them in, but where is the best place to mount the ballasts? I do not want to screw up the motors on the lights. Please let me know, thanks!

I promise I will post pics soon of my HID ACA/LED conversion. I've been promising this for two months.

Anyway, I have great pic of where I installed my Fog and Headlight ballasts. I installed them with double side tape onto the back wall of the light well. I then used self tapping screws and replaced them with bolts and lock nuts for extra security. I was afraid I would hit a bump and then hear the ballasts bouncing around. I know it might be overkill, however it looks good and is very secure and does not interfere with the operation of the lights.

BTW, I noticed you're from Chicago. Isn't there a hockey game you should be watching right now?!

I did both the lows and fogs. Mounted the ballasts inside the frame rails.

The leads for the fogs go down under the rail, low beam leads come over the top. No problems with clearance at all.

I've also seen people mount them on top of the brake air duct.

I moved from Chicago to Florida a few years ago. So glad to see the Blackhawks win. Sad watching JR get misty eyed on the post game. He really wanted to be on the ice when they hoisted the cup. He came close in 1992 but never got back.

I would suggest, based on experience, that you mount the ballast with the wire connections pointing down......helps avoid water issues.

See that you are running the vararam with a cone intake filter, any reason??? I just installed a vararam this past weekend.

Mounted mine under the headlights against the wheel well with screws. Mounted with selftapping screws from under the headlamp and then replaced the selftapping screws with stainless bolts and locknuts. The heads of the bolts are nearly invisible from looking inside the wheel well. Sorry I don't have any pics but I know many others have mounted in that same area. I've never had a problem, and there is still plenty of room for the lights to retract.

That's how I did it as well.

IT was a first Gen Vararam that the PO had installed. First it ate the original foam filter so he fixed that. The next go round it developed cracks in the housing so he just pitched it and went with the cone. Still has the Vararam duct work in place so it gets a little more air.

I tried it there for my low beams, installed a couple of capacitors, and I pinched one of them with the hood latch when I was closing the hood, so I ended up mounting them on the top of the inner fender wells and running the wires to the ballas and the bulb behind the motor for the head lights. There is enough space there, and no wires pinched. You just have to check for clearance for the hood closing right.

Definitely the cleanest way to install. Everything is hidden by the headlights and kept out of the way. Nice pic

^ +1 You can hide a small person inside there. It takes 7 minutes to pull the whole headlight assembly. I think 6 total nuts/bolts. I have mine right under the front brake airduct. Even when you pull the lights out you still can't see them.

Thanks. I tried out a few locations, however agree that it's nice to have everything tucked away and out of site. Plus, the back walls of the light wells are really cheap to replace if you ever need to make changes.
