[Z06] Good bye Z

The conversation about track vs. competition use is interesting. Even the DIC says "Competition Mode" when held down for 5 seconds. However, the warranty does state it will not cover repairs resulting from competition. This is not a conflict actually. Just because they build a car that is intended to be used in competitive situations, does not mean they have to warrant the car under those conditions. The assumption is we are responsible adults that own our race cars outright and will accept the cost of repairs as a result of competing with the cars.
Fact is, competition in auto-cross, drag racing, time trials, or any other "timed" event is a real problem. Your insurance is also not in force when participating in these events. Some take it as far as to say that any damage occuring as a result of the competition, including driving in the pits, or damage caused by a tire failure (crash) as a reuslt of damage caused by the competitive event (say on the way home) is not covered either.
Here's the bug of all bugs. If your insurance company determines that you are competing in the car, and they choose to cease coverage because of that, the finance company, lease or loan, can call in the balance due and terminate the lease or loan (read the fine print on the loan and lease paperwork under required insurance coverage.)
I reality, competing in any car that is not fully paid for is really not a solid idea. The exposure to financial loss is much greater than most believe. In fact, the majority of "racers" running financed or leased vehicles are doing so with their head in the sand, in the hopes that nothing happens. Problem is, things do happen, and when they do, the unprepared get slaughtered.
I personally don't run timed events (with one or two "practice session" exceptions, which are still timed competitive events, and done at some risk.) I do driver schools as often as I can afford. These have far fewer implications on warranty and insurance issues. For racing I drive karts, since I can own them outright and not worry about wrecking them. Karts are a gas in the heat of battle and are excellent seat time. My goal is to get into a Formula car (Vee or Ford), and race that in vintage club events.
It's tough to have access to a car as phenominal as the ZO6 and not be able to actually race it. Unfortunately that's just how life works!
