R u talking about more of a matte finish? Similar to the OEM texture just not black? If so, you have a few different options, including vinyl/plastic dye. The reliability and durability of it isn't as strong as OEM, but as long as u r careful, you should be fine.
If you r talking about the double din mod, then you'd have to consider the fact that you are cutting into a textured part of the bezel to move the horizontal bars down and then have to sand that area smooth since filler isn't textured. Then repainting with a textured paint with color of choice.
I already have the double din mod & the bezel is the standard black. I was thinking about painting it body color, mill. yellow, but doing it in the natural texture, which is the rough surface, not smoothed & clear coated. Has anyone done theirs this way?
only option i can think of for you Larry is to have MY vinyl paint mixed which would spray over the top of the texture. There is 3 grades of vinyl for sheen a 304 low 305 medium and a 306 for a higher luster.
I could get a couple ounces next time i am at the paint store and try it on a spare lid and send it to you if you like to see what it would look like
I left the grain look on mine because i thought i would try and keep some of the originality.
I think if I were to do it over I would sand it smooth. The grain in the plastic is not uniform and when you put paint to it, it really stands out.

This is before clear,
And after clear,
Hope this helps....
Thats what im trying to decide on,smoothe or natural. When you left yours with the natural look you still clear coated it,right?
Im having the lower door panels along with the lower dash parts, radio bezel,& console painted. I thought since they were not smoothe i would leave the radio bezel & console in the rough texture.

Thanks Dennis for the offer. Im still undecided on what im doing here yet. I do like the look of the smoothe bezels, but the painter thinks the natural will look better.

MY two cents LArry would be to go smooth. They look awesoe with a nice shinny buffed finish

Yes,i did Clear coat it with a few coats.
I think i may help even more with your decision and i think that Dennis will probably agree. The problem trying to keep the grain look is that by the time you put paint and clear on the surface most of the Grain is gone.
The best thing about leaving the grain look is the Prep work, you don't have to sand all the surfaces.
Hope this helps with your decision.
Good luck and show us some pic's when your finished.
I agree
By the time they prime it for paint you will not see much for texture
