Default Titanium exhaust bypass

Does anyone know who does the titanium exhaust bypass in MD. Does anyone know if ECS in New Jersey does this type of work?
Thanks John.

I agree with 2K3Z06...Not worth the expense or possibly trashing your Ti catback. You would want to find someone that has TIG welded for years and has experience with titanium. The cost of materials and finding an experienced TIG welder would make worth your time and money to just find a good catback. Titanium filler rods would have to be used, as well as ti piping for the pass thru. This material is fairly thin, so the degree of difficulty for the person doing the welding will go up=MONEY...unlike other metals, you don't get a 2nd pass at titanium, if mistakes are made, that piece is done...

I found a welder that said that he could do it. I removed the system and took it to him and then he said he couldn't do it. Then I had to reinstall, and that's a pain in the *** just for practice. Then I got a great deal on my Borla Stingers from Southern Car Parts and I still have the stock system.

I have read several threads that said it wasn't worth the effort.

You guys are crazy! The bypass mod is one of the best things i've ever done to me car and the whole thing was less then $200! Now, I will say that if that is the only part of the exhaust you plan on changing THEN its not worth it. I started with a bone stock car and did the ti mod first. Not enough change in tone in oppinion to justify cost. I then went with an off road h pipe and HOLY HELL! Man what an instant difference and all of a sudden every time I went around other car guys I would get asked what exhaust I was running. No drone, quite enough to cruise pass a cop without raising any eyebrows, but stomp on it and it just screams! I really couldn't be happier. Lighter, cheaper, and awesome sound..........hhmmmm.

Now I'm getting headers and catted xpipe so we'll see what kind of sound it puts out after that.

You do not want to weld titanium with other metal fillers such as SS, or nickel alloy for example... that would make the weld brittle and easy to break. The rod is basically used to create a pool of metal that will make the joint between two pieces.. In any event I would install exhaust cut-outs before the catback if I desired a 'bypass'....or get a catback that has a bypass built into it like the old B&B PRT...which sounds incredible IMHO...

It adds a little bit more grunt to the quite Ti. With full exhaust and modded-ti it will sound perfect!

Go to another catback? Why do people say that. There is no gain going to any other catback and all you are doing is adding weight. The Ti is lighter then just about any other system minus straight pipes.

I never got around to the mod because i couldn't find anyone in the area to do it. Yes Ti requires a welder who knows what they are doing but the it is well worth the effort.

ROFLMAO @ the weight comment...like a few more pounds is going to upset some delicate balance...I forgot we are all hardcore racers were mere ounces count! The Ti catback was just too quiet for my liking, it was the last thing swapped after longtube headers, off-road x-pipe...I gave the bypass consideration, however; I did not want to take a chance in ruining it should I need to take the car back to stock...

Thanks for all the replies. I am planing on letting ECS install headers and a catless X pipe. I have Bullet Exhaust right now. I want something a little more tame so my wife does not kill me. Thats is why I was thinking about the bypass. I was looking to trade my Bullets but still want the car to sound good.

The stock TI's are the way to go, then. Get a set of DMH electric cutouts. That is what I have, mild to wild in just a switch.

i looked into the bypass mod myself, it really seemed to suit my needs. i just had a few issues like finding a good welder that could do titanium welding, and i also wanted larger tips for a little more aggressive looks but couldn't find any i liked in titanium either...so i went with the borla 2 tip instead.

22 pounds verses 48 pounds. I'm no math major but that's more than a few. Ever lost a race by a nose?

Can't say that I have. In any event... I am sure the longtubes, off-road X-pipe setup is lighter than the heavy *** factory manifolds and catted mid-pipe. I have straight-thru bullets in the back to boot, so I seriously doubt my setup gained any weight over the complete factory system. Would it be a touch lighter with the TI catback, perhaps? However it is not worth losing any sleep over..I just don't see bullets weighing much if anymore.

Would I loose any horsepower going from Bullets to the stock Titanium exhaust with headers. Does anyone have any clips of how the stock system sounds with headers and catless X pipe.

Found this on youtube, C5Z with LTs, no cats, and Ti startup and idle..the power difference is very little if any, just the noise level

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDTnM...eature=related

and a C5 coupe w/LTs and a Ti catback
