Default C5 resales ?????????????

Hi

Being that l follow the used vette market has anybody else noticed that there are very few if any pristine low mileage vettes around.

If you check with the used vette specialists you will see them at crazy prices and selling also. The convertibles are untouchable unless you live in some select parts of the country.

But again maybe because we have so many bottom feeders combing through our for sale section that it has forced the owners hand to post their vettes elsewhere and l can' really blame them.

This is the worst year since 2000 that the good vettes dried up.

Don't get me wrong there are a lot of C5's for sale but l wouldn't touch them because of condition, mods or mileage.

Haven't looked at used cars lately, but I did find my '03 last September - only had 8500 miles on it and was priced very well.

Have the Vette "specialists" ever had low prices? Problem for those guys is that to get a good car they have to invest heavily in the purchase and then need the markup to keep in the black, no surprise there.

The private owners recognize the value of a quality low miles car and would never sell in the current market unless they really need the money. That makes for a small pool of good cars at a competitive price.

What l have noticed is that most of the garage queen owners belong to corvette clubs and when they decide to sell a fellow member will step up and get a fantastic deal.

I tried to swap my 02 coupe for a convertible C5 01-02 plus $$ but had no luck because even though my coupe is perfect with low mileage l couldn't find a vert in similiar condition and believe me l tried.

I wasted driving twice to Conte's Corvettes in New Jersey (100 miles each way) to check out 2 different verts. Both were what l would call questionable condition vettes no matter what the car fax said! But that is my humble opinion. And l took my wife there once thinking l was going to drive home a vert. Never happened.

Bottom line, my vette is perfect and l'm going to keep it because my kids need a 4door and my neighbors would love it but want a 4 seater so they can take their freinds with them.

It sure is tough to have to drive a pristine Vette that's not a vert. I hope this is the worst problem you have.

Generally speaking this problem is not only vettes but the
entire auto industry. It's hard to find stock pristine, low
mileage used cars. What's new?

I'm not sure of what you saying here. I personally know Joe Conti, and he is a great guy who runds a very good shop. But like any business, the concept of the free market system is to buy low and sell high. Thats the hallmark of capitalism. If you switch it around, buy high and sell low no one would be in any kind of business.

But in your case, I suggest you sell your Corvette, (since right now is the time of year when Corvettes sell the best) wait till Thanksgiving and go looking for a C5 convertible. I'm confident you'll find out what is the market for a convertible.

Hi

As far as l'm concerned l would rather drive my vette in the good weather then give it up for a short period of time.
I have owned vettes since 1968.

As far as Conte's is concerned his place is just fine for the average vette owner but for anybody **** l would pass. As far as his price's are concerned the $ was never an issue but he is on the high side but again l'm sure he trades down.

He's a nice guy but his inventory again is not up to my humble standard.

I am only talking about C5's and nothing else.

those kind of cars are called as "cream puffs" I think also as someone else mentioned, alot of guys with low mile stock cars that are "pristine" are holding on to them because of the weak market. Real-estate is the same way...if you own some now, why in the world would you sell, wait til things turn around (which is a long time from now)

Well I for one can say they are out there having bought a 7k mile convertible less then a month ago here on the west coast. The seller gave me first chance at it and said he had lots of emails waiting for me to opt out and I suspect it wasn't a hard sell tactic. If it's possible to beat out the resellers and you actively search they come up for sale. I use craiglook and jaxed plus the for sale thread on this forum.

I was over at the auction site tonight looking around and found a few that were pretty nice. Had a 98 and a 99 with mileage in the 60k range at a no reserve. Also seen an 02 Z06 EB with 21k miles for $24k, I may thinks about trading mine in for that one myself.
