Default Yet another Windshield Question

Hi guys...

I'm scheduled to have my Z's windshield replaced tomorrow. After reading many threads on the topic, I was very clear to specify that I need an HUD windshield, and that the glass should also bear the "4.8MM" stamp on it to indicate it's the thinner windshield specific to Z06's.

The glass company only uses OEM windshields but mentioned that there's a chance the windshield might not have the 4.8MM mark even though it could be the "correct" windshield. That struck me as a bit odd, for how else could you tell the right windshield apart?

My question is, if my glass shows up tomorrow and it does NOT bear the 4.8MM mark, is it absolutely the wrong windshield for a Z06? Is it possible GM still makes the thin Z06 windshield but doesn't stamp them anymore? I just want to have my facts straight in case I have trouble with the windshield being "wrong".

Jeebus....thats a great question. I don't know, but can maybe offer this....contact a dealer to feel them out, ie oem part numbers, etc. maybe see if the two part numbers are similar? regardless, bump for a good question.

Apparently it's difficult to find a replacement with the 4.8mm marking. However; if they ordered one specific for a C5Z06, it should be correct thickness/size. The Z06 windshield will not have a radio antenna built into the glass. Check for that and make sure they are replacing your plastic reveal molding and weatherstrip that goes over the passenger/driver doors. That **** will leak if they put the old stuff back in after removing it to pull the old glass. Any chance you can you get your hands on a digital caliper to measure glass thickness?

OK, so I had a look at the windshield from the glass company today. As expected it did not say "4.8MM" on it but it did say HUD.

I don't have a micrometer but I did manage to measure the thickness of the glass by using a set of spark plug gapping shims that I stacked to measure 4.801 mm. I lined it up with the edge of the windshield and it seemed to be a perfect match. It seems to me, the windshield is in fact 4.8 mm thick but doesn't have the marking.

edit: as suggested above, I looked for any evidence of a radio antenna within the glass and could not find anything.

The windshield did not get installed today because the installer did not have the right molding for the top. It's on order from the dealership and we'll try again in a few days when the correct piece arrives. Until then... I'm of the opinion that this is the correct windshield but I'm still looking for second opinions. Anyone know how thick the non-Z06 glass would be? Is it close enough that eyeballing the thickness with spark plug gapping shims would not be adequate?

Here's a picture of the markings on the new windshield (again not yet installed). Not bad for an iPhone camera! Any additional thoughts are appreciated!

I went through Cascade, they're a glass company here in town. They even paid my deductible on both cars so I am not paying a dime and they are taking care of all the insurance.
