Manual says out the bottom, some have taken it out the top.
Any DIY on taking out of the top? Why does GM prefer the bottom? Is there any damage risk from the top? This sounds like a sex thread...and then she suggested...

The service manual has the whole procedure in it-it's worth the $100 for the manuals if your doing this. It is easier and faster out the bottom if you have a lift to lift the body off the subframe.

I am looking for the manuals now. The body is going to be a foot off the ground.
I found the DVD on sale for $25. I have a computer in the garage with internet access (I am in the computer biz). I want to make sure it contains everything the manuals do.

If you have the manual on DVD there is no need for internet access. Mine contains all the same info, drawings, etc. as the printed one. The real advantage (to me at least) is the DVD manual is searchable. Also, once you have installed the DVD, you no longer need the disc.
There are free downloads available but I have heard of a lot of installation problems.

Its worth a try. Any idea where the free download link is? In my biz we deal with some difficult software.
