Well the title says it all. I have a broken arm and broken wrist. Currently in a cast from my hand to just short of my elbow.
My drivers window has a long scratch in it. I don't know if it got put down while a rock or something was lodged in the molding or something crazy like that, but at any rate it needs replacing.
My local junk yard can get me a window for $85. Glass shop wants $65 to install it. I have had the door panel off before changing the speakers, so that is easy enough. How tough is it to actually replace the glass? And can I do it with an immobile thumb and 4 fingers sticking out of a cast?
Ya know....when I saw this post title I was gonna drop in and say "with the other arm" thinking that it must be ambiguous reference in that they mean a broken controller arm or something.
But, you meant exactly what you said sorry about that guy.
Dont know how hard its gonna be in your current condition but I would suggest you have a friend there, it is going to involve sticking a hand in somewhere in the procedure. Id come over but...NY > MI
BTW, the scratching of the window is a known problem, it has to do with the rollers. Mine has a slight scratch also, its not getting any worse so Im watching it atm. May want to research how to check those while you are in there if yours is shot enough to really scratch it, I would hate to scratch the new window in a short time.
I just installed a window in my 69 Camaro and barely handled it with TWO good arms and hands. The trickiest part is getting 5 different settings on the window lined up correctly.
I'd bite the bullet and pay the $65. Took me just over two hours. I would have paid that in a minute.
The cheapest way I can think of is to buy a 12 pack of Beer..... Then (after the job is done) give the 12 pack to the buddy that helped you change out the window.
Changing out the window is not difficult normally but it will be with just one functional hand. I suggest you have someone ther to help pull it out after you've loosened the clamps and put it in when you have to hold it, align it and tighten the clamps.
