Default Column lock Issue

Well, it has bit me. I was in gthe process of changing out my front turn signal bulb (no small feat in it self) and I go to test drive the car and the error "check steering column lock" comes up. I can turn steering and everything except the engines stalls as you try to get moving.

Bottom line, what do I need to buy to fix this. It is a 2001 6M.

Thanks for your help.

or

or

http://www.corvettesofhouston.com/pr...products_id=54

costs about $50 / corvettes of Houston

takes about 45 minutes to an hour the 1st time (and only time) as a rookie

It would only take 20 minutes after you do it once, but you only do it once ...

DO IT

Thanks, I'll order the kit and install it. By the way the column is locked when the engine is not running. It is just doing as described, cutting out the fuel pump as you try to take off. I knew it would get one day.

Thanks again.

I installed a CLB the first month I had the car.

Peace of mind!

I've had a CLB installed for over 4 years with zero issues. Buy it, take 20 minutes to put it in and you'll be good to go.

Thanks for your help.
Couple of things you need to do when you get the CLB.

1) Make certain that if your car has the GM K Harness, the you disconnect BOTH ends of it and plug the CLB into the female connector that is attached to the bottom of the dash. Here is a link to a pic of a K Harness:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...ky-please.html

Then scroll down to the first pic.

Be certain that you do NOT plug the CLB into a female connector that has only two wires, one white and one purple. That is the female connector of the K Harness.

2) If your car does NOT have a GM K Harness, then check in the passenger footwell to the left of the fuse box and above the BCM (large silver box) for the presence of a spliced purple wire with a relay that has a purple wire going into the splice. Here is a picture of exactly what that will look like:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...please-52.html

Then scroll to post 1030

If you have the spliced purple wire and relay mod then you MUSY bypass the relay in order for the CLB to work correctly. Here is a link to a thread that describes the details of how to bypass that relay:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...-was-done.html

Then scroll to post #3.

3) Last thing to do is check the state of health of the battery. Bad or weal battery and or loose or dirty battery cable are the MOST COMMON cause of the column lock symptoms. This time of year the heat is taking it's toll on batterys. Here is a link that talks about checking the battery health and why the dash gage readings cannot tell you the state of health of the battery:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...please-58.html

Then scroll to post #1155 and read the second paragraph.
