Default Unique tire pressure sensor problem...

I just had my wheels re-polished and bought new tire pressure sensors from the Tire Rack. I went through the normal "relearn"....nothing....sensors not recognized. I did this multiple times for over an hour. Then I went to the right rear sensor first and it "learned" as if it was the left front sensor. Next I went to the left rear sensor and it "learned" as if it was the right front sensor....next I went to the left front sensor....nothing...... then to the right front sensor...... nothing.

At this point I took the car out and checked the pressure readings. The right and left rear sensors are reading correct pressure as if they were the left and right front sensors. What gives?

Is something reversed connection wise at the receiver? The problem with the front sensors not learning could be my magnet..... it's a small horseshoe type and because of the way the 9.5" HRE 547 rim is configured I can't get it as close to the sensor as with the back 12" HRE 547 rims. I'm going to try a much stronger magnet for the fronts.

Could my tuner have reversed something while tuning the motor?

New sensors are not position sensitive. They should work regardless of which wheel they are on. If you're re-installing old sensors, you can usually get by without programming if they are returned to the identical locations. I would guess the problem is the location on the RIM. The magnet is not strong enough to reset the sensor. You can program the sensors BEFORE mounting them, then mark the locations and install them in the each wheel!

I agree. Either your magnet is not strong enough, or the two sensors on the front wheels are defective. Your magnet worked on the rear wheels, so I'm leaning towards two defective sensors that both happenned to end up on the front wheels.

As Bill said, it's best to program them before they are installed and label them so they don't get mixed up during installation. That way you know ahead of time they are in good working order.

These are new sensors..... the problem is to make anything happen, I have to start at the right rear sensor (even through the DIC says start at the left front) ....then go the left rear sensor..... the right rear and left rear sensors program as if they were the left front and right front sensors....when I go to the left front and right front sensors.... nothing happens. Its probably my weak magnet as I can't get as close to the stem as I can in the rears. OK so if a stronger magnet will program all 4 sensors that doesn't fix the problem of the rear sensors reading as if they were the fronts and the fronts reading as if they were the rears..... any ideas?

The DIC is what assigns the location. If it's asking for the left front and you go to the left rear it will think the sensor in the left rear is in the left front.

Try a stonger magnet and follow what location the DIC is asking for.

Are you sure you bought the correct sensors for your year? 97-2000 were the larger sensors and the 2001-2004 were the smaller sensors. If they put in the wrong sensor, it won't work no matter how strong your magnet is.

They are the correct sensors....other wise 2 of them wouldn't program. The new 1997-2000 sensors are smaller than the old ones....I have one new GM replacement and 3 new ones from the Tire Rack....they are identical. I ordered a 22 lb horseshoe magnet and hopefully this will allow me to program the front sensors in the correct order.

The real problem is probably the rim configuration of the HRE 547s...the magnet can't get close enough to activate the front sensors.

Thanks for the suggestions....
